City of Wilmington inviting community to explore public works during Demo Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is inviting the community to get an up-close look at the people and equipment behind many of the city’s day-to-day services during a special event celebrating National Public Works Week.
The city will host “Demo Day” on Thursday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the City Hall South Lot at 929 N. Front St.
The event is themed “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community” and will feature hands-on activities, live demonstrations, and interactive exhibits highlighting the work of Wilmington’s public works departments.
According to the city, attendees will have the chance to explore large vehicles and heavy equipment while learning about services including stormwater management, traffic engineering, urban forestry, fleet maintenance, landscaping, and solid waste operations.
City staff will also be on hand to discuss career opportunities in areas such as engineering, environmental services, mechanics, drone operations, and urban forestry.
The event will also include educational displays and local food trucks.
Admission is free, and free parking will be available in the South Lot of Skyline Center.
