King Tides expected to bring flooding risks to Carolina Beach this week

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach officials are warning residents and visitors to prepare for possible flooding as King Tides are expected to begin Thursday, May 14, and continue through Thursday, May 21.
According to the Town of Carolina Beach, a super full moon occurring during this period could increase the likelihood of flooding on roads and in other low-lying areas throughout town.
Areas that are most often impacted during King Tide events include Canal Drive, Florida Avenue, Carolina Beach Avenue North, and other flood-prone locations.
Town officials say roads may be temporarily closed due to flooding conditions. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to use caution, obey all posted traffic signs and barriers, and avoid flooded streets and walkways.
Officials also warned that driving through saltwater flooding can damage vehicles and may expose motorists to hidden debris in the roadway.
The Carolina Beach Police Department said officers will issue citations to anyone caught driving around barricades or through flooded areas.
