SBI: Former Pender prison staff member charged with embezzlement
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former lieutenant at Pender Correctional Institution is facing several felony charges after an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The SBI says it was requested by North Carolina Department of Adult Correction personnel at Pender Correctional Institution on March 10 to investigate allegations of impropriety involving a staff member.
Following the investigation, SBI agents charged former Lt. Rannie Lee Boney with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretense, one felony count of embezzlement by a public official and one felony count of uttering a forged instrument.
Boney turned herself in Wednesday morning at the New Hanover County Courthouse and received a $20,000 unsecured bond.
Her first appearance is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Pender County Courthouse.
