Burgaw disables comments on town Facebook page

BURGAW, N.C. (WWAY) — Town leaders in Burgaw are changing how residents can interact with the town on social media.

The town announced it has turned off comments on its Facebook page, saying the platform will now be used solely as a one-way communication tool for sharing public information.

According to a post on the town’s Facebook page, the decision was made based on staff recommendation and guidance from the UNC School of Government.

Mayor Olivia Dawson said residents can still share posts and discuss them elsewhere online, but encouraged anyone with concerns or complaints to contact town leaders directly.

“If anyone is concerned about not being able to share or post, you actually can share that post and your able to put your comments elsewhere but the fact that you maybe can’t comment on ours, we ask that you contact us directly or email us directly with those complaints or me directly,” Dawson said.

The town also encouraged residents to speak directly to Town Council during public forums held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
