Public seminar Saturday to focus on Cape Fear environmental concerns

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear River Watch will host a public seminar Saturday morning focused on several environmental issues affecting southeastern North Carolina.
The free event will take place at the organization’s office at 617 Surry St. and will feature a presentation by Executive Director and Cape Fear Riverkeeper Kemp Burdette.
According to the organization, Burdette will provide a mid-year update on Cape Fear River Watch’s ongoing advocacy efforts and discuss several environmental issues currently drawing public attention.
Topics are expected to include ongoing hearings involving PFAS and 1,4-dioxane contamination, a proposed expansion of the Port of Wilmington, a proposed interbasin water transfer and issues related to industrial-scale livestock operations.
The presentation is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to last about 45 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Cape Fear River Watch will also offer a free pancake breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. before the seminar.
The organization said the event is open to the public and will focus on current environmental initiatives as well as ways community members can become involved in ongoing advocacy efforts.
