NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC  (WWAY) — A 36-year-old man died after crashing a stolen vehicle in New Hanover County late Friday night, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a crash in a ditch near 7331 Rabbit Hollow Road at approximately 10:50 p.m. on May 29. When deputies arrived, they found the driver still inside the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man, identified as Joshua Parrish, was highly resistant to deputies’ efforts to detain him, requiring four officers to take him into custody.

During the investigation, deputies determined the vehicle had been stolen.

The sheriff’s office said Parrish had allegedly jumped into the bed of a truck. When the driver stopped and got out to confront him, Parrish allegedly got into the truck and drove away.

Deputies said Parrish was acting erratically and appeared to be under the influence of an impairing substance.

After he was detained, Parrish was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
