WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Novant Health’s newest hospital in the Cape Fear region is set to begin caring for patients next week.

Novant Health announced that Scotts Hill Medical Center will officially open to patients on Tuesday, June 16. The 250,000-square-foot facility, located at 151 Scotts Hill Medical Drive, is designed to expand access to healthcare for residents along the rapidly growing U.S. 17 corridor north of Wilmington.

The new hospital includes 66 licensed inpatient beds, eight operating rooms, two procedure rooms for gastroenterology and endoscopy services, and a cardiac catheterization lab for procedures such as stent placements.

Hospital leaders say the facility is a key part of Novant Health’s long-term strategy to increase access to healthcare in the region.

“This hospital and its expert care teams will boldly advance our efforts to ensure a healthier future for our entire community,” said Laurie Whalin, president of the Novant Health Coastal Region. “We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of this needed healthcare infrastructure to better serve our neighbors by providing expanded access to high-quality care.”

The hospital also includes 14 patient observation rooms, a 29-bed pre- and post-surgery unit and a 12-bed post-anesthesia care unit. Digital technology throughout the facility will allow on-site care teams to collaborate with off-site specialists when needed.

Grant Rush, president of Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center, said the facility was designed with both advanced medical care and patient experience in mind.

“Every detail of this facility was meticulously planned with our patients at the forefront,” Rush said. “We ensured this hospital offers advanced technology and the latest diagnostic equipment to support specialized surgeries and procedures and inpatient treatment for a range of needs, including heart and vascular and critical care.”

The hospital connects directly to the existing Novant Health Emergency Department – Scotts Hill, which remained open during construction. Novant said the emergency department is expected to double in size later this summer.

Once fully staffed, Scotts Hill Medical Center will employ approximately 700 team members, including nurses, respiratory therapists, imaging specialists, laboratory staff and pharmacy personnel.

The facility also serves as the centerpiece of a larger healthcare campus that includes the Novant Health Scotts Hill Outpatient Surgery Center and the Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Plaza.

The 60,000-square-foot medical office building offers outpatient services including primary care, heart and vascular care, neurology, urology, pediatric specialty care, radiation oncology, rehabilitation services and cancer treatment.

Before the hospital officially opens, community members will have an opportunity to tour the facility during a Community Day event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the hospital campus.
