DELCO, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County commissioners have approved the next step in the sale of county-owned property in the Acme-Delco community to Columbus Regional Healthcare System, a move that could support future healthcare expansion in the area.

During a meeting on Tuesday, commissioners unanimously approved a resolution and real estate purchase and sale agreement for the property. The proposed sale price is $500,000.

The resolution authorizes the required public advertisement process before the sale can receive final approval. Commissioners are expected to consider final approval during a June 29 meeting scheduled for 9 a.m.

The action follows previous efforts by Columbus Regional Healthcare System to expand healthcare services in the Acme-Delco area. The health system has expressed interest in establishing a medical facility in the community to improve access to care for residents who often travel significant distances for healthcare services.

Officials did not discuss specific development plans for the property during the meeting.

Commissioner Smith made the motion to approve the resolution and purchase agreement, with Commissioner Bullard providing the second. The measure passed unanimously.
