Southport Police: Power outages continue, officers managing traffic

Update: Power has been restored as of 3 p.m.

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The Southport Police Department is reporting that power remains out across the city as crews and emergency responders continue to manage increased calls and traffic disruptions.

According to an update from the Southport Police Department, officers have been responding to multiple 911 calls while also directing traffic at several intersections impacted by the outage.

The department said it is receiving assistance from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office to help manage the situation.

Officials are asking drivers for patience as crews work through the ongoing issues. With traffic lights currently out in several areas, intersections should be treated as four-way stops, police emphasized.

Drivers are urged to come to a complete stop and proceed cautiously at all affected intersections.

Authorities have not provided an estimated timeline for when power will be fully restored.
