Food Bank receives 37,000-pound donation through America 250

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More than 37,000 pounds of nonperishable food were delivered Thursday to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina through a nationwide donation effort tied to the upcoming America 250 celebration.
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina was one of 250 organizations across the country selected to receive a food donation as part of the initiative.
The donation is part of a nationwide partnership between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and America 250. The Wilmington Stake worked to bring one of the initiative’s food shipments to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, where it will help serve families facing food insecurity across the region.
Food bank leaders said community partnerships like this play an important role in keeping shelves stocked and meeting growing demand.
Jason Allen, a member of the Wilmington Stake presidency, said the church hopes the effort will strengthen long-term partnerships with local organizations.
“The opportunity we have to provide a service for our community has been really overwhelming, and we’re working to develop a partnership with the Food Bank and other organizations, The Good Shepherd house across the street, to provide lasting meaningful partnerships well into the future,” said Allen.
Organizers said every donation helps expand the food bank’s ability to provide meals to families in need and emphasized that community partnerships remain essential in addressing hunger across southeastern North Carolina.
