WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — A local nonprofit is recognizing one of its biggest supporters. Today, The Healing Place of New Hanover County dedicated a courtyard fountain to honor Blanche Williamson, recognizing her years of generosity and commitment to people recovering from substance use disorder.

Leaders, staff, board members and community supporters gathered Tuesday morning at The Healing Place on Medical Center Drive to celebrate Williamson’s impact.

The organization honored her for years of support that helped advance its mission of serving people in recovery.

Williamson said she has always felt a connection to water and hopes the fountain will remind every person who visits that healing and a fresh start are possible.

“You can come here and talk to God or your higher power and start your day all over again and just that you’re loved and that you have a great bright future ahead of you because if you made it here, you’re a winner and you’re just going to go up, up, up,” said Williamson.

The Healing Place offers a free, peer-led residential recovery program. Leaders said they hope the new fountain will stand as a lasting symbol of hope and healing for years to come.
