85-year-old man dies after Wilmington townhome fire on South Front Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An 85-year-old man has died after a fire at a townhome in downtown Wilmington.
According to the Wilmington Fire Department, crews responded around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, July 5, to the 200 block of South Front Street for a reported residential structure fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the townhome. Crews quickly searched the home and rescued the 85-year-old man.
The man was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to the fire department.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the townhome where it started, preventing it from spreading to neighboring homes.
The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire was accidental.
