City of Wilmington shares weekend traffic updates before YMCA Tri-Span 5k/10k brings road closures

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Drivers should expect temporary road closures and lane restrictions in Downtown Wilmington on Saturday morning as the 44th Annual YMCA Tri-Span 5K/10K takes place.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the race beginning and ending at Riverfront Park. Organizers expect nearly 1,000 runners to participate.

Motorists traveling through downtown Wilmington are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes when possible, and allow extra travel time.

The following traffic impacts are expected during the race:

  • Nutt Street (southbound) between Harnett and Hanover streets from 7 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.
  • Front Street (southbound) between Nun and Church streets
  • Westbound on-ramp to U.S. 17/74/76 from South Front Street
  • Right lane of eastbound U.S. 17/74/76 over the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge
  • Right lane of northbound U.S. 421 approaching N.C. 133/Isabel Holmes Bridge
  • Right lane of westbound N.C. 133/Isabel Holmes Bridge

Traffic is expected to return to normal once the race concludes late Saturday morning.
