NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County has begun mailing 2026 property tax bills, with property owners expected to receive them by mid-August.

Property taxes are due Sept. 1 and can be paid without interest through Jan. 5, 2027. Property owners whose taxes are paid through a mortgage escrow account will receive a courtesy notice and are encouraged to confirm payment with their mortgage company.

The county tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 is 30.6 cents per $100 of assessed value. Property owners in unincorporated areas will also see a 7.25-cent fire services tax and a separate stormwater services fee. Tax bills also include applicable municipal taxes for residents of Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach.

To help residents avoid delinquency, the county has included four payment coupons that divide the total tax bill into equal installments. Payments can be made in person, online, by phone, by mail or through the drop box outside the New Hanover County Government Center. Online payments are subject to a service fee.

County officials encourage anyone who needs assistance or payment arrangements to contact the Tax Department before Jan. 6 to discuss payment plan options and avoid becoming delinquent.
