City of Wilmington announces first downtown services & special events director

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington has hired Laura Brogdon-Primavera as its first Downtown Services & Special Events director, a newly created leadership position aimed at enhancing downtown operations, community partnerships and special events.
The position was established as part of the city’s organizational realignment and reflects Wilmington’s continued focus on supporting its growing downtown district while improving services for residents, businesses and visitors.
Brogdon-Primavera will oversee a range of downtown initiatives, including special event and film permitting, downtown programming, social districts and the coordination of municipal services that support the downtown community. She will also manage key partnerships, including the city’s Municipal Services District program and Convention Center services contract.
“Laura has spent years bringing people together around a shared vision for our city’s success,” City Manager Becky Hawke said in a statement. “She has earned the trust of businesses, nonprofits, educators, and community leaders through her collaborative leadership and commitment to making Wilmington a better place. Those relationships and her passion for this community will be invaluable as we continue shaping the future of our downtown.”
Brogdon-Primavera brings more than a decade of leadership experience in the Wilmington community. Most recently, she served as vice president of leadership development for the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, where she oversaw programs designed to connect and develop regional leaders.
Before joining the Chamber, she worked with the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, helping build partnerships that supported the region’s entrepreneurial community.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Appalachian State University and a Master of Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Brogdon-Primavera said she is honored to continue serving the community by helping shape the future of downtown Wilmington and creating a welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
She is scheduled to begin her new role with the city on Aug. 10.
