NCDOT begins utility work ahead of Wrightsville Beach bridge replacement

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Utility relocation work is scheduled to begin next week as part of the Wrightsville Beach Bridge Replacement project.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, contract crews will begin moving power poles on Monday, July 20, near the West Salisbury Street (U.S. 74) bridge over Lee’s Cut.
NCDOT said most of the work will take place outside of travel lanes and is not expected to affect traffic. If lane closures become necessary, they will occur at night, and the department said it will notify the public in advance.
The utility work is a preliminary step in preparing for replacement of the bridge.
Weather permitting, utility relocation is expected to be completed by mid-August.
Transportation officials are reminding drivers to slow down and watch for crews working in the area.
