Bladen County asks water customers to voluntarily reduce usage under Stage 1 conservation

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Bladen County Water Department is asking customers to voluntarily reduce their water use by 5% as part of a Stage 1 Water Conservation request.

Officials said the voluntary conservation measures are intended to help protect the county’s water supply and maintain reliable service for customers while reducing the need for stricter conservation measures in the future.

The Water Department is encouraging residents to take several water-saving steps, including limiting lawn and landscape watering to no more than 1 inch per week, avoiding watering streets, sidewalks and driveways, and watering plants deeply but less frequently to promote stronger root growth.

Customers are also encouraged to run washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads, use a spring-loaded shutoff nozzle when using a garden hose, and check their homes for leaks and make repairs as soon as possible.

County officials said small reductions in water use across the community can help preserve water resources and support the county’s overall water supply.

The conservation request is voluntary, and no mandatory water restrictions have been announced.
