What’s happening across the Cape Fear this weekend

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear region will have several fun events to choose from this weekend, including a grand opening for a local business, a nonprofit fundraiser, a pop culture festival and an art exchange.

In Pender County, Adele’s Treasures in Burgaw will celebrate its grand opening Saturday at 10 a.m. The event will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the mayor of Burgaw. According to owner Emily Adele Weeks, the shop was created after a fall forced her to leave her previous job, inspiring her to open a space where local artists can display and sell their work.

The grand opening will also include live music, food trucks and family activities. The first 30 customers will receive giveaways.

In Brunswick County, Leland Brewing Company will host the “Pigs in the Pub” fundraiser Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. to benefit Sunshine’s Pig Sanctuary, a nonprofit based in Atkinson. Attendees can learn about the organization and meet one of its newest rescued pigs, Ducky.

Also on Saturday, the Cape Fear Pop Culture Fest will take place at the Elks Lodge in Wilmington from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event will feature vendors selling collectibles and artwork, as well as a cosplay contest. Admission is $5, while children 12 and younger will be admitted free.

The weekend concludes Sunday with a Tiny Art Trade at the Hannah Block USO Center in Wilmington from 2 to 4 p.m. The free event invites artists of all skill levels to create and exchange miniature works of art, including paintings, sculptures and other handcrafted pieces.
