Escaped North Carolina Inmate Captured in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — An inmate who escaped from Forsyth Correctional Center Friday morning has been captured, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.

Officials said Raymond Warren, 35, was taken into custody shortly after 3 p.m. Friday by officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department and the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.

Authorities located Warren at a home on Indiana Avenue, just a short distance from Forsyth Correctional Center, where he escaped earlier in the day.

Warren will now be housed at Central Prison and is expected to face an additional felony escape charge.

The Department of Adult Correction thanked the agencies involved in the search, including its staff and specialized response teams, the Winston-Salem Police Department, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and numerous other law enforcement agencies that assisted in locating Warren.

Earlier Friday, officials said Warren had escaped from Forsyth Correctional Center while serving a five-year sentence on two counts of larceny. He was originally scheduled for release in 2028.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape.
