Red Shark Digital partners with Wilmington organizations for Shark Week conservation campaign

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Shark Week campaign is bringing together businesses and conservation groups across Eastern North Carolina, with several events and partnerships centered in the Cape Fear region.
Red Shark Digital’s annual Shark Week campaign combines support for local businesses with marine conservation efforts, sustainability initiatives and volunteer opportunities. While the campaign spans Eastern North Carolina, Wilmington will play a key role through partnerships with local organizations and a community cleanup at Greenfield Lake.
One of the campaign’s primary partners is Plastic Ocean Project, a Wilmington-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing plastic pollution and protecting marine ecosystems. Red Shark Digital is participating in the organization’s 2026 Sustainable Summer Campaign, encouraging residents and businesses to adopt more sustainable practices and help protect North Carolina’s waterways.
The campaign will conclude with a community cleanup at Greenfield Lake in Wilmington on Saturday, Aug. 29. Hosted in partnership with Plastic Ocean Project and J&J Tattoo, the event will bring together volunteers, local businesses and community members to remove litter from the shoreline.
“Our goal has always been to use Shark Week as a platform to give back, but this year has exceeded our expectations,” said Alaina Corsini, head of agency at Red Shark Digital. “We’re not only driving people to support local businesses, we’re also helping raise awareness for Plastic Ocean Project and the important work they’re doing to protect our North Carolina coast.”
Throughout July and August, Red Shark Digital employees will also participate in office sustainability initiatives, including expanded recycling efforts and environmentally conscious workplace practices.
The campaign coincides with Shark & Ray Awareness Month and is designed to encourage community involvement while highlighting the importance of healthy marine ecosystems.
Although many participating businesses are located throughout Eastern North Carolina, the Wilmington-area partnerships are intended to support local conservation efforts and provide volunteer opportunities for Cape Fear residents interested in protecting the region’s waterways.
