Brunswick County drug investigations lead to multiple arrests

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says multiple people are facing drug- and weapons-related charges following several investigations conducted by its Vice and Narcotics Unit and Special Operations Unit.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigations focused on suspected drug trafficking and other illegal activity in Brunswick County.

Among those arrested was 22-year-old Jordan Anthony Scott, who faces two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, along with charges including possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, fentanyl and cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities also charged 79-year-old James Edward Durrett with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Other arrests announced by the sheriff’s office include:

• Joshua Ryan Kelton, 45: Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver fentanyl, methamphetamine and marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Nathan William Benedict, 24: Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver fentanyl, methamphetamine and marijuana, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Katelyn Renee Woodell, 35: Exposing a child to a controlled substance.
• Richard Allen Clemmons, 57: Exposing a child to a controlled substance.
• Ashley Nichole Helton, 39: Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine.
• Heather Marie Mackey, 36: Trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine and marijuana, conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Devlin Edward Greenless, 31: Trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine and marijuana, conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Samantha Marie Malay, 32: Trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine and marijuana, conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Rocco Michael Rella III, 51: Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce.
• Jermain Bryant, 41: Possession of a firearm by a felon.

The sheriff’s office said the arrests were the result of investigations targeting the distribution of illegal narcotics and other criminal activity.
