Wilmington man fired into SUV occupied by five people, including children

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony charges after court records allege he fired a gun into an occupied vehicle carrying several people, including young children.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of Chestnut Street. Following an investigation, officers quickly identified and arrested Daquan Trendell Brunson, 32, who was transported to the Wilmington Police Department.

Court records allege Brunson discharged a firearm into a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe parked on Chestnut Street while it was occupied by two adults, a 17-year-old and two children under the age of 5.

Investigators also allege Brunson assaulted the female victim with a firearm, a deadly weapon, with the intent to kill.

Police said Brunson fired several shots at the occupied vehicle, but no one was injured.

Brunson is charged with:

• Discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle
• Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
• Discharging a firearm in a reckless manner

He is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Facility while awaiting trial.
