Wilmington Health announces permanent closure of Urology practice
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Patients who receive care through Wilmington Health’s urology practice will need to make new arrangements after the office closes later this summer.
Wilmington Health announced its urology office will permanently close on Aug. 31. The practice said no appointments will be scheduled after that date.
Patients with questions about their care or who need referrals to another provider are encouraged to contact Wilmington Health directly.
The practice said supporting patients throughout the transition remains a priority and encouraged anyone affected by the closure to reach out for assistance.
In response to the closure, Novant Health says it is collaborating with Wilmington Health to help the current patients.
In a statement by Natalie Talley, director of the Surgical Institute for Novant Health Coastal Region, she says:
“Thankfully, Novant Health has prioritized recruitment of urology specialists in recent years to build up to our current established team of 8 physicians and 11 advanced practice providers. We continue to recruit new specialists, including several advanced practice providers in the coming months and a urologist joining us next year.
Novant Health offers convenient access to urology clinic locations across the region, in Wilmington, Scotts Hill, Leland, Bolivia, Carolina Shores and Jacksonville. We are also opening a new location later this year in Autumn Hall. To meet the needs of our community, we are collaborating with Wilmington Health and other independent physicians to prioritize patients under active treatment to ensure continuity of care. This includes our cancer institute teams, who already provide multidisciplinary genitourinary cancer care and have dedicated navigators to support patients. We will work diligently to accommodate all new patients.
Our urology teams provide care for a variety of conditions, including urinary and bladder issues, prostate, bladder, testicular and kidney cancer, enlarged prostate, erectile dysfunction and pediatric urology needs. Treatments include minimally invasive robotic surgery options, including laparoscopic prostate, kidney and bladder cancer procedures, and aquablation to treat enlarged prostate.”
