‘Crowning in Confidence’ workshop inspires young girls

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –The YWCA of the Lower Cape Fear helped young girls build confidence, develop leadership skills, and connect with positive role models during a one-day workshop Friday.

Girls ages 5 to 12 participated in the “Empower Experience: Crowning in Confidence,” an event focused on personal growth, teamwork and leadership.

The workshop included lessons on self-defense, internet safety and other skills designed to help participants feel more confident and prepared. The girls also had the opportunity to meet female role models and community leaders.

Olivia Hester with the YWCA said the event was created to help young girls recognize their strengths and understand that they have a community supporting them.

“It makes me so happy that the parents are able to come out and participate, and if they weren’t, we actually provided transportation, so we have all walks of life here today, and it just fills my heart with joy,” said Hester.

Hester said encouraging and empowering young girls is more important than ever. She said the workshop aimed to build their confidence and remind them that they are valued just as they are.
