WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County will celebrate the Phase 2 expansion of Smith Creek Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Smith Creek Park Phase 2, located at 251 Lake Emerald Drive East in Wilmington.

County officials say the expansion includes 85 acres dedicated to passive recreation, with more than 90% of the property preserved in its natural state.

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Chair LeAnn Pierce, County Manager Chris Coudriet and Parks & Gardens Director Jodi Rich are expected to deliver brief remarks during the ceremony. County commissioners and project partners are also expected to attend.

A ribbon cutting will follow the remarks.

Officials are reminding attendees that the ceremony will not take place at the original Smith Creek Park parking lot. Visitors should instead use the Lake Emerald Drive East address to reach the Phase 2 expansion area.
