Hampstead Beekeepers to offer beginner beekeeping course this fall

Hampstead, NC (WWAY) — A local beekeeping organization will offer a seven-week course this fall for people interested in learning how to care for honeybees.

Hampstead Beekeepers is accepting registration for its annual Beginner Beekeeping Class. No previous beekeeping experience is required.

The course will cover honeybee biology, beekeeping equipment, acquiring bees, hive management, honey production and harvesting, pests and diseases, hive products and bee yard safety.

Participants will receive classroom instruction as well as a hands-on field day working with live honeybees under the guidance of experienced beekeepers.

Classes are scheduled for seven consecutive Mondays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lotus Haven Hives Apiary, 3515 Angus Drive in Castle Hayne.

According to the organization, instruction will be provided by experienced members of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association.

Registration costs $75 and includes course materials, memberships in Hampstead Beekeepers and the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association, a club T-shirt and first-year mentoring. Additional family members can enroll for $25 each.
