WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Novant Health will break ground Tuesday on a new physical rehabilitation hospital that officials say will expand access to specialized inpatient rehabilitation services across southeastern North Carolina.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Novant Health New Hanover Orthopedic Hospital, located at 5301 Wrightsville Ave. in Wilmington.

According to Novant Health, the new rehabilitation hospital will include 60 private patient rooms and will be built on the 15-acre Wrightsville Avenue campus that is also home to Novant Health New Hanover Orthopedic Hospital.

The facility will be the first newly constructed rehabilitation hospital serving the community since the original rehabilitation hospital opened in 1994.

Novant Health leaders, clinicians and community partners are expected to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
