Wilmington Police Department swears in new assistant chief

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department has officially sworn in Brooke Wright as its new assistant chief, making her the first woman to serve in the role.

Wright took the oath of office during a ceremony attended by city leaders, command staff, community partners, family members, friends and Wilmington Police Department personnel.

Wright brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience to the position. She most recently served as assistant chief with the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia, and was selected following a nationwide recruitment process.

In a social media post, the Wilmington Police Department welcomed Wright, saying her experience, professionalism and commitment to public service will help lead the department into the future.

Wright joins the department’s executive leadership team alongside Police Chief Ryan Zuidema and Deputy Chief Rodney Dawson.
