Wilmington seeks final public input on plans for new 25-acre park

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is asking residents to share their ideas for a new 25-acre public park off Greenville Loop Road before the current community survey closes Friday, Aug. 7.

According to the city, nearly 1,000 people have already responded to the survey, which asks residents what they would like to see included in the future park.

The property was purchased with funding support from The Endowment and New Hanover County, and is intended for use as a public park and open space.

City officials said the park will feature a mix of preserved natural areas and future amenities, with the final design guided by community input, environmental conditions and long-term planning. Development is expected to occur in phases as funding becomes available.

The city recently released a request for qualifications to hire a design firm that will lead the next phase of planning for the park.

Officials said additional opportunities for public input will be available after a design firm is selected, allowing residents to continue providing feedback as plans for the park move forward.

Residents interested in participating in the current planning process are encouraged to complete the online survey before it closes Friday.
