Leland celebrates Founders Park reopening with veterans tribute and presentation of colors

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Members of the American Legion John E. Jacobs Post 68, VFW Post 12196 and the North Brunswick High School JROTC participated in the Presentation of Colors during the reopening and rededication of Founders Park on July 31.
The park, located at 113 Town Hall Drive, reopened after renovations that began in late 2023. Improvements include a Veterans Memorial, amphitheater, walking paths and a splash pad.
The Veterans Memorial features a tribute stone honoring U.S. Army Specialist 4 John E. Jacobs, who was killed in action in Vietnam in October 1968. Jacobs is the namesake of American Legion Post 68.
The reopening also marked the first event in the Town of Leland’s Live in Leland concert series. Local nonprofit organizations and businesses hosted information booths, vendors served food and refreshments, and The Embers featuring Craig Woolard performed during the evening.
