Adult Story Hour returns to Wilmington for six-week fall series
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Literacy Council is bringing back its Adult Story Hour this fall, with six weekly events featuring North Carolina writers and entertainers.
The series will run every Tuesday from Sept. 15 through Oct. 20 at Azalea Station, 1502 Castle St. in Wilmington. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with each program beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Adult Story Hour is an annual fundraiser for the Cape Fear Literacy Council and features guest readers sharing humorous and poignant literary works, followed by conversation and a question-and-answer session.
This year’s scheduled readers are Rhonda Bellamy on Sept. 15, Wiley Cash on Sept. 22, Marlon Ramos on Sept. 29, Celia Rivenbark on Oct. 6, Anita Thomas on Oct. 13 and John Jeremiah Sullivan on Oct. 20, according to an event flyer included in the announcement.
Tickets are $20 for individual events, while a pass for the six-week series costs $100.
Drinks will be available for purchase at Azalea Station, and food is available nearby at the Cargo District Food Court. Pomegranate Books will also have copies of featured books available for purchase during the series.
The Literacy Council also announced two other upcoming fundraising events.
A book sale is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Good Hops Brewing, 811 Harper Ave. in Carolina Beach. Books and puzzles will be available for $1 to $3.
Oktober Books will also host a “Practical Magic” movie night from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 3 at Azalea Station. Admission is free with online registration, and a portion of proceeds from book sales and drink specials will benefit the Cape Fear Literacy Council. Local artists are also scheduled to draw pet portraits for guests who donate at least $10 to the organization.
