Carolina Beach purchases property for future fire department expansion

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Beach Town Council voted during a special meeting on Aug. 4 to purchase a portion of property on Charlotte Avenue adjacent to the town’s Fire Department for $475,000.

Town officials said the acquisition aligns with the recently completed facilities plan, which calls for a future expansion of the Fire Department.

While there are no immediate plans to begin construction, officials said purchasing the property now will allow the department to accommodate future growth as demand for services increases, rather than relocating and building a new facility later. The town expects the decision to reduce long-term costs.

Fire Chief Alan Griffin said the acquisition provides the department with flexibility to meet current operational needs while preparing for future service demands as the Carolina Beach community continues to grow.

The purchase will be funded using existing debt service funds and will not require the use of the town’s reserve funds.
