New Hanover County to hold Child Support Amnesty Days for parents with active arrest orders

New Hanover County, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County will hold three Child Support Amnesty Days next week for parents with active arrest orders related to county child support cases.

The New Hanover County Department of Social Services’ Child Support Services, New Hanover Family Support Services and partner agencies will hold the event August 13th-15th at the New Hanover County Public Library, 230 Grace St. in Wilmington.

According to the county, child support agents will be available to meet with parents about their cases during the event, and participants will not be arrested while attending.

Parents may have an order for arrest recalled by making one month’s child support payment or paying $300, whichever amount is greater.

Representatives from the Supporting, Training, and Employing Parents Program will also be available to discuss payment options and barriers that may be preventing parents from meeting court-ordered child support obligations.

The county said the initiative is intended to give noncustodial parents an opportunity to address outstanding arrest orders while helping provide child support payments to custodial parents ahead of the new school year.

Amnesty Days will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.
