WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday marked a major milestone for the new Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, one day before the facility opens to the public.

New Hanover County officials, Wilmington city leaders and Museum Director Kate Baillon gathered for the ceremony, which marked the end of the 12-year Project Grace effort.

The new museum offers twice the space of its former location and includes more than 400 exhibits, interactive features and a new 60-seat planetarium.

Baillon said she is excited for the public to experience the new facility and see the investment made in preserving and sharing the Cape Fear region’s history.

“To really sort of see the level of investment and the care that the county has put in to creating this place, it makes me feel so proud to be a part of this county; it really does,” said Baillon.

The Cape Fear Museum of History and Science officially opens to the public Tuesday.
