Island Arts Council’s ‘Art in the Yard’ returns to Pleasure Island

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — More than 50 local artists will open their studios, yards and garages to the public next month as the Island Arts Council hosts its fifth annual Art in the Yard.
The free event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 20, from noon to 4 p.m.
Art in the Yard gives visitors an opportunity to tour Pleasure Island while viewing artwork and meeting the artists who created it.
Featured artwork will include paintings, jewelry, stained and fused glass, woodworking, fabric art, photography and resin art.
The event officially kicks off each day at Good Hops Brewing, but visitors can begin their tours at any participating artist location.
This year, organizers are introducing an interactive map through EventureMap. Visitors can search for artists by name, location or artistic medium. The map also provides directions through Google Maps and information about each artist’s work.
Organizers say visitors can access the map on their phones. A printable map will also be available through the Island Arts Council website, along with QR codes at participating local businesses and information at the event tent at Good Hops Brewing.
Art in the Yard also serves as a fundraiser for the Island Arts Council.
Raffle tickets will be sold during the event, with donated one-of-a-kind artwork displayed at Good Hops Brewing. Raffle drawings will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
A new prize this year will give visitors another chance to win artwork. Participants who scan QR codes at artist locations and visit at least 20 locations will be automatically entered into a drawing for an additional piece of art.
More information and event maps are available through the Island Arts Council website.
The Island Arts Council promotes visual, performing, literary and culinary arts on Pleasure Island, while supporting local artists and encouraging economic development through the arts.
