Winston-Salem woman indicted in connection with San Diego mosque shooting, DA says

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WWAY) — Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill will hold a news conference Monday to announce the arrest and indictment of a Winston-Salem woman in connection with the May 18 mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.

The shooting left three people dead and was carried out by two teenagers, ages 17 and 18, who were later found dead in a vehicle near the mosque. Authorities said at the time that the suspects had shared a broad hatred toward different religions and races, and investigators recovered 30 firearms and a crossbow from two residences searched in connection with the case.

The news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at the Winston-Salem Police Department. O’Neill will be joined by FBI Charlotte Special Agent in Charge Reid Davis, Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn Jr., and Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr., according to the release.

The name of the woman indicted and details of the charges against her had not been released as of Monday morning.

The May shooting at the mosque killed a security guard and two others who authorities said helped prevent the attack from spreading further into the building. San Diego police said at the time there was no specific threat against the center prior to the attack.
