Wilmington boy’s birthday surprise draws dozens of new friends
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An 8-year-old Wilmington boy’s birthday party turned into an unexpected celebration this weekend after a social media post brought dozens of parents and children together to help him celebrate.
Oliver Gray was ready to celebrate his 8th birthday Saturday, but the party took an unexpected turn when none of the guests he had invited showed up.
His mother, Amber, turned to social media to share what had happened. She said she never expected the response that followed.
Dozens of parents and children answered the call, showing up to celebrate Oliver and make his birthday special.
What began as a disappointing day quickly turned into a gathering filled with new faces, birthday wishes and gifts.
“Everybody who came out, it was amazing. Everybody was so friendly and there were people who even came by to say happy birthday and drop off a gift for him,” Amber said.
Some people who could not stay still stopped by to wish Oliver a happy birthday or leave a gift. Others who could not attend the party made an effort to send him money or a present.
For Oliver, the unexpected show of support turned a difficult start to his birthday into a day he won’t soon forget.
He is thankful for everyone who came out to celebrate with him and is looking forward to spending more time with the new friends he made.
