Free Repair Café workshop coming to Wilmington Sept. 26
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A free community workshop designed to help people repair broken household items is returning to Wilmington later this month.
Repair Café NC will hold its third Wilmington event from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, located at 1000 Greenfield St.
People can bring broken household items to the event and work with experienced volunteers to learn how to repair them. Basic tools and materials will be provided.
Items that can be brought include:
- Lamps
- Vacuum cleaners
- Toys
- Simple electronics
- Small appliances
- Small pieces of furniture
- Clothing
- Jewelry
Walk-ins are welcome, although organizers recommend registering in advance.
Volunteers are also needed to help with repairs and assist attendees. No specific repair experience is required for those interested in volunteering, according to organizers.
The Repair Café concept began in the Netherlands in 2009 as a way to promote repair and reuse rather than throwing away items that could potentially be fixed. Events are now held in communities around the world.
