14-year-old victim dies after Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 14-year-old boy died after being shot in Wilmington Tuesday evening, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Police said officers responded to the area of South 5th Avenue and Dawson Street shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday after gunfire was reported.
When officers arrived, they found the boy suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital by EMS for treatment.
Wilmington police said Wednesday the boy died Tuesday night despite life-saving efforts.
The Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the ongoing investigation.
