New medical assistant apprenticeship launches in Brunswick County
Bolivia, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Workforce Development and Brunswick Community College have launched a new medical assistant apprenticeship program aimed at preparing workers for health care jobs in the region.
The Clinical Medical Assistant Registered Apprenticeship is being offered in partnership with Dosher Memorial Hospital and ApprenticeshipNC.
Participants will work full time at Dosher Memorial Hospital while completing on-the-job training and classroom instruction through Brunswick Community College’s Clinical Medical Assistant program.
The program uses a learn-while-you-earn model, allowing apprentices to receive wages while gaining technical skills and workplace experience.
The apprenticeship was approved through ApprenticeshipNC and follows registered apprenticeship standards.
Cape Fear Workforce Development Director Brian Jackson said the program is intended to connect employers, educators and workforce organizations to address local staffing needs.
For Brunswick Community College, the apprenticeship provides students with an opportunity to gain job experience while completing their training.
According to ApprenticeshipNC data cited in the release, employers participating in registered apprenticeships have reported employee retention rates of more than 90% five years after completion. Apprenticeship completion rates average between 70% and 80%.
