World Trade Center steel dedicated at North Carolina Emergency Training Center

NEW LONDON, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal held a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Friday at the North Carolina Emergency Training Center in New London, where a piece of World Trade Center steel was dedicated as a permanent memorial.

The ceremony marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Organizers said the event honored the nearly 3,000 people who died that day, along with first responders, survivors and families affected by the attacks.

The World Trade Center beam will remain at the training center as a memorial for firefighters and emergency responders who train there.

The ceremony included remarks from 9/11 survivor Mark Giannini, who shared his personal experience from the day of the attacks.

North Carolina State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor then dedicated the World Trade Center beam.

The ceremony began at 8:30 a.m. at the North Carolina Emergency Training Center on Airport Road in New London.
