India Day brings culture, food and celebration to downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– The Cape Fear Cultural Association of India held “India Day” Saturday at the Harrelson Center in downtown Wilmington, bringing hundreds of people together to celebrate Indian culture and community.

The free event featured traditional music, dancing, food and local Indian vendors.

The celebration also recognized India’s Independence Day, giving community members an opportunity to share their heritage with others in Wilmington.

Shashin Patel says seeing people from outside the Indian community attend the event and learn about the culture has been a special experience.

“It’s Indian celebration with Wilmington American flavor. It’s very different, it’s unique. You won’t find this anywhere outside of Wilmington,” Patel said.
