CFCC to showcase mapping technology, career paths at GIS event

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will host a GIS Career Discovery Night later this month for people interested in learning more about mapping technology and related careers.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. at CFCC’s North Campus, 4500 Blue Clay Road, in room NB135.

Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, use mapping and data technology for applications including city planning, storm response, environmental protection and business decision-making.

CFCC says the event will include live equipment demonstrations along with information about GIS career pathways, program options, course costs and financial aid.

At 6 p.m., students in the college’s Foundations of GIS Systems course are scheduled to present their final projects, showing how they have applied skills and concepts from the course.
