Topsail holds off Ashley in conference matchup, 27-12

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Topsail hosted Ashley in a conference matchup Friday night, looking to snap a three-game losing streak against the Screaming Eagles.

The game featured a matchup between two first-year head coaches: Topsail’s Adam Purzitza and Ashley’s Terry Albert.

On the opening play, Luca Van Der Lee took the handoff and broke into Eagles territory for a first down.

The Pirates capitalized on the next play when a Tyler Vickers pass was deflected and landed in the hands of Carter Reitan, who took it in for a touchdown.

The game was delayed for nearly two hours late in the first quarter.

After the lengthy stoppage, Topsail held on to earn the win and snap its three-game losing streak against Ashley.
