Front Street Bridge to close for six months starting Sept. 26

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Drivers who regularly use the Front Street Bridge in downtown Wilmington will need to find another route beginning Sept. 26.

The City of Wilmington says the bridge will close for approximately six months while crews complete structural repairs.

The project includes a full replacement of the bridge deck and repairs to existing pedestals.

Crews will also clean, paint and repair the bridge’s steel members and substructure.

A new three-bar metal railing system that complies with North Carolina Department of Transportation standards will also be installed.

The city is reminding commuters and people traveling downtown to plan alternate routes ahead of the closure.
