Water main break prompts early dismissal at seven Pender County schools
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Seven Pender County schools are dismissing students early Tuesday after a water line break caused water pressure to drop in parts of the county.
Pender County Schools says the break is along U.S. Highway 421 near Blueberry Road.
Pender County Utilities Director James Proctor notified the district of the break and said water pressure in the affected area was continuing to drop.
The following schools are dismissing early:
- Cape Fear Elementary School
- Cape Fear Middle School
- Heide Trask High School
- Malpass Corner Elementary School
- Pender High School
- Pender Innovative Learning Academy
- Rocky Point Elementary School
Families should receive information directly from their schools regarding specific dismissal times, student pickup and transportation.
All after-school activities at the seven affected schools are also canceled Tuesday.
The district says it remains in contact with Pender County Utilities and will continue monitoring conditions.
As of Tuesday, Pender County Schools plans to operate on a normal schedule Wednesday, Sept. 23. The district says families and staff will be notified if that changes.
