New Hanover County Board of Adjustment continues Hilton Bluffs appeal

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The controversial Hilton Bluffs development in New Hanover County remains in limbo after the county Board of Adjustment continued Tuesday on an appeal of the proposed project.

The development, proposed for the Sledge Forest area of Castle Hayne, would include about 1,800 homes.

The project has faced pushback over traffic and access, particularly after developer Copper Builders removed proposed connections to nearby neighborhoods. The latest plan left the development with one main access road.

Last week, New Hanover County Manager Chris Coudriet denied that plan, citing public safety concerns related to the proposed access.

During Tuesday’s Board of Adjustment meeting, the board continued an appeal involving the project, meaning it did not issue a final decision.

Copper Builders could submit a revised development plan addressing the county’s concerns, which would then go through the county’s review process.
