Wrightsville Beach lifeguard stands close for fall season

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Beachgoers will no longer see staffed lifeguard stands at Wrightsville Beach as Ocean Rescue transitions to its fall operations.

The Wrightsville Beach Fire Department says Ocean Rescue stopped staffing lifeguard stands beginning Monday, Sept. 21.

Ocean Rescue personnel will continue patrolling the beach using trucks and ATVs each day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Officials say anyone who needs emergency assistance when a lifeguard is not nearby should call 911.

The fire department is also reminding beachgoers to stay out of the inlets and off the jetty wall, where dangerous currents and hazardous conditions can exist regardless of the weather.

Beachgoers are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings while visiting Wrightsville Beach this fall.
