Shuckin’ Shack locations raise money to fight blood cancer

LELAND, N.C. (WWAY) — Three Shuckin’ Shack locations across the Cape Fear came together Saturday to help raise money in the fight against blood cancer.

Restaurants in Carolina Beach, Wilmington and Leland participated in the annual “Turn the Tide” campaign, raising money for Blood Cancer United.

The campaign builds on more than $300,000 raised over the past four years.

At the Leland location, the fundraiser featured live music, raffles and drawings, with 20% of the restaurant’s total daily sales donated to the cause.

Chilaya Fuller, general manager of Shuckin’ Shack in Leland, said it is encouraging to see the community come together to support the effort.

“The owner found out that he had blood cancer so about five years ago, this is our fifth year now that we are raising money for the cause, for research and everything else blood cancer related,” Fuller said.

The Carolina Beach location held its annual block party as part of the campaign, while the Wilmington restaurant hosted an oyster-eating contest, with all proceeds going to the cause.
