Former NBA star Lamar Odom coming to Wilmington to discuss recovery, second chances

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Former NBA star Lamar Odom is coming to Wilmington this week to discuss his experiences with recovery and second chances.

Odom, a two-time NBA champion, will appear at Coastal Horizons’ annual fundraising luncheon Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center.

The event, titled “Still Here: Lamar Odom on Survival, Recovery and Second Chances,” will feature a conversation about his life and ongoing recovery journey.

“Recovery is not linear. There can be setbacks, hard days and moments when someone needs to begin again,” Coastal Horizons Vice President of Development & External Affairs Elizabeth Redenbaugh said. “Lamar’s willingness to speak candidly about his journey is a powerful reminder that a setback does not erase someone’s progress—or their chance at a different future.”

Proceeds from the luncheon will support Coastal Horizons’ programs for adults and children in crisis, including services for survivors of sexual assault and young people experiencing homelessness.

Coastal Horizons says it serves more than 25,000 people annually across 62 North Carolina counties through behavioral health care, crisis intervention, primary care, substance use treatment and other programs.
